Local Youth Collective Impact (LYCI) Program
After finding out yesterday that Tamarack is working with larger partners to submit an application and having heard that there are other large organizations applying and looking at the amount of work to do and the cost to complete an application from us Marg and I decided that it was not financial prudent or strategically sensible to continue to try to get an application in knowing that we will have little chance of competing with those coming from groups of larger organizations.
What we do believe however is that we are well positioned to be awarded one or more of the subsequent grants that will flow from this larger one over the next few years. The research done on the background documents such as Stepping Up, Ontario’s Youth Action Plan, Review of Roots of Violence and the connections we have made with Provincial organizations acting for youth and supporting the collective impact possible through collaboration will make applying for these grants much simpler. The thinking you have been doing in regard to the Priority Outcomes of Stepping Up and related evaluation serve as a sound base for us to develop collaborative structures to support the best outcomes possible for our youth.
If those who met and worked on this application continue to focus on what collaboration structures are required to achieve the Priority Outcomes and invite others to the table perhaps we can have a structure similar to Best Start serving the needs of youth…and perhaps we could recommend to Lead Table that we extend the focus and support (stewardship) of Every Kid to age 25 rather than to age 18. This page will remain until decisions are made as to next steps.

Please think about:
1. how we can address the application terms of our rural demographics
2. what other collaboratives/organizations we can call on for support
3. How this application will address themes and priority outcomes outlined in Stepping Up.
4. models/research related coaching that you might be aware of
5. how we might break down the budget
6. how to get this done in time
7. who else needs to be part of this

- Hi Ian Members of Leeds and Grenville’s Every Kid in our Communities collaborative have decided to submit a response to MCYS’s Local Youth Collective Impact Programme’s call for proposals. http://www.ohpe.ca/node/15273. We are looking for partners as we develop an application and hope you will give this your consideration. Our size and resources are both obstacle and advantage to being considered. Our history and success as a collaborative, our established structures of collaboration including website, the work we have done with your Centre and the Centre of Excellence for Youth, the engagement of multiple sectors and it’s continued expansion, our lead role in producing www.checkeredflags.ca/, our relatively small size as an example of managing/demonstrating/measuring outcomes of collaboration for kids, our being a rural area; are all advantages. To address obstacles we are building a coalition of partners with interest in youth and collaboration that would be able to meet the outcomes of this call for proposals. I am sending you a copy of the request for proposal in a separate e-mail. Final proposals are due by May 2. I will be in Ottawa next week if you would like to meet or I can be reached at this e-mail address or by cell at 613-803-2048. I look forward to speaking with you,

- Beyond collaboration to Collective impact. Tamarack confernce
- Collective Impact differs from other collaborative approaches. It generates new solutions by reaching agreement across diverse stakeholders to address a shared community issue in a multi-faceted way using a common agenda, aligned efforts and shared measures of success. It is an approach that goes far beyond simply offering more or better services or programs to generate lasting impact by addressing root causes. Collective Impact offers a proven framework to guide the implementation of initiatives aimed at system-level transformation. It requires unified effort that leverages the skills and capacities within all sectors of a community, including: non-profits, neighbourhood groups, government agencies, schools, businesses, faith communities, and community leaders.
