Policy Statement on Risk Management
EKIOC members participate in a collaborative committee supported by a wide range of community organizations. Members understand that risk associated with activities of EKIOC cannot be eliminated completely. The Risk Management Policy of EKIOC is to adopt best practice in the identification and mitigation of risks, to ensure that they are either eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level.
Our Risk Management objectives are to:
1. Integrate Risk Management into the culture of EKIOC.
2. Manage risk in accordance with best practice.
3. Consider legal compliance as an absolute minimum.
4. Anticipate and respond quickly to social, environmental and legislative change.
5. Prevent injury and damage and reduce the cost of risk.
These objectives will be achieved by:
1. Establishing a Coordinating Committee within our organizational structure to act in an advisory and guiding capacity and which is accessible to all members.
2. Provide an orientation to EKIOC process and risk awareness to all new members of EKIOC
3. Include Risk Management as one of the implications to be considered in every committee report.
4. Ensure that appropriate insurance coverage exists and is documented for all events and for coverage of all staff by appropriate organizatons (Insurance certificates)
5. Adopt processes, which demonstrate that Risk Management principles are being applied across the whole organization. These include but are not limited to the orientation process for new members, signing of confidentiality and conflict of interest forms etc.
6. Maintain effective communication and involvement of all staff and members.
I commit to learning about and supporting the work of EKIOC. I have reviewed the governance document and orientation materials provided to me, and am committtef to the values, principles and strategic directions of EKIOC.
I will attend at least 75? % of meetings (including sending rep if unavailable? to be discussed). I will prepare for meetings by reading the meeting materials beforehand, and will participate actively during meetings.
I will work respectfully and collboratively with all partners to further the mission of EKIOC.
I will declare any conflicts of interest, and excuse myself from discussions and votes as approriate. Understanding that the nature of of EKIOC’s collaboration may involve varying levels of conflict of interest, I am committed to open and honest disclosure, and putting the needs of whole (EKIOC) ahead of the part (agency interests). (???thoughts?)
I will act as an ambassador for EKIOC in the community, and further the EKIOC vision in daily work.
